If you are an exotic car enthusiast, you likely pay close attention to technological changes and developments in the vehicles that you love. You may be tech-savvy enough to understand what is going on underneath the hood of your vehicle. This is a good thing, as not only will understanding your car help you to become a better driver, particularly in a finely tuned exotic car, but it will also help you to avoid being scammed by the ill-intentioned.
However, not everyone is quite so aware of what is going on under the hood. The following urban legend is pervasive and long-lasting, having circulated for at least sixty years. It seems to have become popular again recently, as hybrids, fuel cell vehicles and other high-tech engines have captured the attention of the mainstream.
The Miracle Carburetor
There are a few different versions of this story, all of which are false, according to Snopes. One of the most common goes something like this. A couple from middle America decides to purchase their dream vehicle, a high-powered exotic car, for an upcoming cross-country road trip. As the miles pass, they are surprised to realize that their gas gauge barely moves. By the time they reach their destination, thousands of miles away, they have bought gas only twice. The same happens on their return trip as well. Naturally, they are excited about this unprecedented gas mileage. The wife writes a letter to the company to express her thanks. A few days later, they are awakened in the early morning by strange noises in the driveway. The husband goes to investigate and finds two men in business suits tinkering under the hood of the car. They take off in a nearby car, and the husband finds nothing wrong. From that point on, however, the car gets normal gas mileage. It turns out that the car was a research model fitted with a special device to allow it to get outstanding fuel mileage. It was never meant to be sold to the public, and the strange men were researchers who retrieved their device.
The legend seems to be based in our overall suspicion of collusion between car manufacturers and oil companies. We believe that there must be a better alternative, but we are not permitted to access it. As fuel prices soar and new alternative technologies are released, it becomes easy to believe the story. Nonetheless, it never happened.
We have known since the gas crisis of the 1970s that we are too reliant on foreign oil. Nonetheless, the car culture of the 1950s has become a strongly ingrained part of the American conscience. We cannot imagine life without our exotic cars, SUVs or family sedans. Most cities are not set up for walking or biking, forcing us to drive whether we really want to or not. In addition, many of us are car hobbyists, putting a great deal of care and love into restoring our exotic cars and keeping them looking and running perfectly.
If you are like many exotic car owners, you may prefer to drive your car as little as possible. Many exotic car fans enjoy displaying their vehicles at car shows and perhaps driving their favorite roads on the weekends, but are not interested in logging significant mileage. However, since relatively few car shows are held close to home, sooner or later you will face the question of how to get your exotic car from here to there. Provided here are a few tips.

Exotic cars are by definition luxurious, sporty and high-performance. Entering the cockpit of many exotic cars has been likened to entering the cockpit of an airplane. Everything is carefully designed to enhance your driving experience in every way. However, not all exotic cars yet offer a GPS system. Even if yours does, you may find that the preinstalled system does not provide all of the features you desire. If you are in the market for a new GPS, provided here is a quick reference guide on what you should know.
If you happen to have both an exotic car and a teenager, you may have noticed that your child has become oddly quiet in recent months. A rite of passage for teenagers is teetering on the brink of extinction, thanks to skyrocketing gas prices. “Cruising” has been a weekend ritual for teenagers since the American car culture began in the 1950s. In today’s market, however, teen drivers are doing well if their after-school paychecks manage to cover the gas it takes to get to those jobs.

Exotic car enthusiasts come in many forms. Some are collectors, carefully lining up a handpicked assortment of their favorite model years and styles. Others believe that exotic cars are meant to be driven hard, and purchase a single vehicle that best meets their needs for style, comfort, speed and power. Still others save for a lifetime in order to afford the vehicle that once captured their eye in childhood.
This past weekend was Father’s Day. As generations of fathers have before them, many dads awoke to a new tie and perhaps a home cooked breakfast. However, in communities from coast to coast, many fathers discovered that their special day was just beginning. Exotic car shows seemed to be the order of the day.
